Quizás muchos de nuestros problemas emocionales los expresamos a través de la forma en la que comemos.  Nos sentimos empujados a comer sin hambre cuando tenemos necesidad de calmar la ansiedad o llenar un vacío de frustración o miedo. Por eso es importante empezar a conocernos bien y detectar aquellos estados de ánimo que nos empujan a comer sin control, para poder gestionarlos de forma más adecuada. Porque en ese momento lo que necesitamos es alimentar nuestra alma. De manera instintiva hemos relacionado la nutrición con las emociones. El vínculo entre la alimentación y la afectividad viene de nuestros orígenes.

El vínculo entre alimentación física y emocional

Nuestra madre nos amamantaba cuando éramos bebés en un acto lleno de amor. La necesidad de afecto y de nutrición son necesidades primarias, sin las cuales no podría sobrevivir el niño. Por ello, la alimentación física y emocional están íntimamente relacionadas en cada uno de nosotros.

En ocasiones, cuando sentimos un vacio en nuestro interior, el recurso más rápido del que disponemos es llenarlo de comida. Cuando comemos tomamos algo que está fuera de nosotros y lo llevamos a nuestro interior, de manera que el alimento se fusiona en nosotros y se convierte en un sucedáneo de la verdadera necesidad que tenemos. Esto puede convertirse en un hábito y, frente a las situaciones emocionales negativas con las que nos enfrentamos, comer demasiada, muy rápido o sin hambre. Podemos acabar con un sentimiento de culpabilidad y malestar mayor, intentar ponernos a dieta al día siguiente o llevar a cabo regímenes continuos, por lo que nuestro cuerpo se encuentra en perpetua lucha por reconocer sus necesidades físicas. Pero también emocionales.

¿Qué podemos hacer ante esta situación?

Simplemente pregúntate, ¿por qué quiero comer ahora? Debemos aprender a escuchar a nuestro cuerpo. Una buena herramienta es practicar la relajación o dedicarnos unos minutos al día para cuidarnos. También es muy importante tomar alimentos saludables, ya que si mi cuerpo está nutrido sentiré menos necesidad de ir a la nevera y comer comida basura. Cada uno de nosotros sabemos aquello que nos gusta, nos favorece y nos sienta bien. Y cuanto mejor como, mejor me siento. Nada hay tan nutritivo como recibir un abrazo o llamar a esa persona que siempre nos reconforta.

Es importante recordar que nuestro cuerpo es un vehículo para modificar nuestras emociones y que podemos gestionar nuestra tristeza simplemente intentando sonreír o moviéndonos. Caminar o bailar pueden sernos muy útiles en esos momentos en los que nos invade la ansiedad.

POR OTRA PARTE, PODEMOS IR ADQUIRIENDO ALGUNOS PEQUEÑOS HÁBITOS PARA APRENDER A COMER DE FORMA CONSCIENTE, DISFRUTAR DE LA COMIDA Y ASÍ MEJORAR NUESTRA SALUD:

– Tomemos conciencia de los alimentos que llegan a nuestra mesa. ¿Quién ha hecho posible que estén ahí, cuanto procesamiento han necesitado, cómo han sido cocinados?

– Tómate tu tiempo para comer, al menos 20 minutos. Si dispones de menos tiempo, reduce la cantidad de alimentos que vas a tomar.

– Comer de forma consciente, sin mirar la televisión, la pantalla del ordenador, un libro o cualquier otra actividad que te impida una atención plena. Y siempre comer sentados.

– Antes de empezar observa los alimentos, su forma, su color, su aroma. Deja que todos tus sentidos estén presentes.

– Come en pequeños bocados, saborea y deléitate con los sabores. Mastica muy lentamente, hasta que el alimento se deshaga en tu boca.

– Entre bocado y bocado intenta dejar los cubiertos en la mesa y espera unos segundos hasta llevar nuevamente el tenedor a tu boca.

– No te saltes ninguna comida, la sensación de hambre posterior te puede llevar a comer compulsivamente más tarde.

Comer con la razón es la mejor forma de aprender a comer de forma saludable y a disfrutar de los alimentos. Tenemos que aprender a reconocer cuándo tenemos hambre, así como a reconocer cuándo hemos comido lo suficiente.
